I'll continue to keep hosting my photo albums here, but do check out my blogspot for full blog entries. Thanks to everyone who has been following this blog :-) - Ems ![]()
Radioactive Sago Project at Youth Vote Philippines Launch with an introduction by Gang Badoy of Rock Ed. September 20, 2008 Street Party at Cubao X It was a great night. Nahiya naman ako. I'm 24 and I have never registered to vote in my life. (And I know a lot of my friends are like me too.) One of the people speaking at the launch said that 62% of the Philippine voting population is actually composed of the youth. And I remember thinking, "Talaga? So altogether, we would have made a real difference pala?" So this year, I'm making a promise to register for the upcoming elections and become more involved in the whole process. My Philippines. My future. Thanks to Youth Vote Philippines for making an effort to make more young people aware of this. And to all my friends... Tara! Register na tayo! I initially intended to write a separate blog entry about the Kulinarya Tagala Tour especially for this advocacy blog. But work suddenly caught up with me and I never found the time to. So pardon me, I will just have to re-post the one I wrote for my personal blog. I've always been a fan of YTRiP, so on their special Kulinarya Tagala Tour, I decided to drag along a couple of officemates who didn't really care all that much about my "NGO things". So I wanted to bring them over and show them that well.. the whole "NGO thing"... it's funner than they imagine it to be! - - - - When I first got invited to the Kulinarya Tagala Tour, I figured this was one of the NGO stuff I do that my EON friends can enjoy. So thinking it would be a refreshing change from all the drinking, and drinking, and drinking... I sent over an email to everyone back at The Firm. And as luck would have it (plus a little bit of hard work, coz to a certain extent I did have to force/convince them to go!) Pao and Migs finally decided to go.And off we went to the Southern Tagalog Region for a full day of... Cheers to Quezon Province, for their lambanog and their stylized Tagayan Ritual! ![]() ![]() Remember Pao, I say "titimtiman ko lang", you say "Sasaluin kita... ang tamis ng alak mo!" Nyahahahha! Once again, thank you to Albert Bainto for the amazing photography. And a big big hug to YTRiP and Tita Tina for orchestrating this amazing day of overloading our senses - from the physical to the spiritual! Check out the album from that day - click here.

Link: http:/ Youth Venture enables young people to learn early on in life that they can lead social change. Ashoka developed the concept of Youth Venture from understanding a key insight of Ashoka Fellows in the field of youth development: one of the most effective ways to improve the lives of youth is to empower them to realize their own ability to make positive social change. Youth Venture thus inspires and invests in teams of young people to start and lead their own social ventures, and is building a powerful network of young changemakers across the world. It is currently operating in the US, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, India, South Africa, Thailand, France, Germany, and Spain. Ashoka is launching Youth Venture in the Philippines this August spearheaded by Harvey Keh, Program Director and Katrina Wy, Program Officer. They are currently in the process of finding partner companies, foundations, schools, community-based organizations, media and government offices to cooperate and work with us to help us realize our mission of honing the leadership and entrepreneurial skills of young Filipinos. YV Philippines plans to run Dream It, Do It Workshops in schools and communities around Metro Manila first and eventually expand operations beyond the Metro within the succeeding years.
to an afternoon of listening to aspiring young social entrepreneurs speak about their plans of helping their own communities. The event is open to everyone. For more information, contact Katrina C Wy (02) 4977614

Last year I was part of the Hands On Servathon team and I have to say it was one of the most fulfilling projects ever. It was so overwhelming to see all the people come together in the spirit of volunteerism and nation building. Originally conceived as a corporate volunteerism project which asked companies to encourage their employees to volunteer, at Servathon 2007, we had a happy surprise - one group from Ateneo decided to do it as a batch reunion activity. Such a refreshing way to celebrate a batch anniversary, dontcha think? Saw this post on Claire's blog, Servathon is getting bigger and better each year! Last year we had 20 corporations join in on the fun. This year, they've pledged to bring it up to 30. Go team! Heheh, good luck guys! Here's an article on it from ABS-CBN Global: - - - - - - 6/20/08 Gearing Up for Servathon 2008 with Hands on Manila Empowering people to Be Hands On!Hands On Manila (HOM) announces Ms. Regina T. Roxas, as the new Servathon Committee chairperson. Ms. Roxas will lead this year’s Servathon event , HOM’s yearly service marathon where corporate volunteers engage in various community projects that yield tangible results. In 2007, Servathon had 20 participating corporation -- Accenture Philippines, American Express, Ateneo Law School Batch ’85, Bank of the Philippine Islands Foundation, Central Azucarera Don Pedro Inc., Chevron Philippines, CIBO, Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc., EON The Stakeholder Relations Firm, First Gen Corporation, Globe Telecom, Hongkong Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd.
